Reflecting back on what I had initiated to do, I believe that everything that I wanted to aim for was accomplished to a high standard. In my proposal, I had set out to create a collaborative piece with the other members of my group based on our ideas and do what I was intended to do in the process. I feel that I have completed my timetable and all the things I had chosen to do, these were to develop my role, take full responsibility for learning my lines and any blocking that was required, use my skills and imagination and carry out research. To begin, I completed my research in the first week like I intended to do, I managed to find out about the play and information about the playwright Caryl Churchill however I didn't really find out why she wrote the play in an episodic structure or why she separated it into 7 sections but I used other directors theories instead. Furthermore I used the websites and more to get the information needed, I then used this information and applied it in to my scenes and the play as a whole. While studying the play and researching it I rehearsed my first scene and the came up with ideas for it just as I intended to do.
My first scene with Ben was didn't really go to plan, I intended to come up with ideas based on research but instead Ben and I chose to follow his ideas and create a scene from the 1920s. Although it didn't go as I planned, I thought it went better than predicted the ideas were brilliant, nevertheless we didn't really use them or showed them whilst performing which was such a shame. Ben wanted to do a New York accent which would have made the scene look better and would have showed our idea to the audience but he had trouble doing the accent as it was a hard accent to copy. Our idea was based on the 1920s mafia and gangs, with the accent people would have noticed where we chose the play to be set in but we never did which was really such a shame as everyone in our group loved the idea. Savant and Mother, my other two scenes were different, we achieved every of our ideas and created a marvelous performance. Savant was going to be based on a war and me being shot, we got everything we wanted except for the props, we intended to get camouflaged helmets and rifles but due to loss of props we weren't able to get them, it was annoying but we still managed to present our idea to an audience through the use of sound effects and lighting which was really effective as the audience understood the idea behind it. Mother went exactly as Chloe and I set out to perform it. We didn't really have props except for my phone but that didn't really have any part to play in the scene it was just so I could include it to show off my characters age. Even though we chose not to use any props we still managed to get the idea to the audience and they loved it, it was simple but effective. Everything went smoothly and according to plan I thought that all my choices were correct except one the scene Grass. Looking back at the scene we could have done something else to it instead such as use a different tone and emotion to my character, this way it would look strange but still look different. When reading the script I believe that I could of made the scene be totally different than to how I performed it, but it doesn't really matter because we still did the scene and it went well.
Comparing the two groups and the same scenes, they went different but normal, such as the scene Savant, the other group decided to go for an interrogation, Harry one of the actors in the scene chose his character to be a "know it all" and be "smart" with the other character, I thought it worked really well as they got their point to the audience and presented a strong performance. Compared to Madeline and my performance it was totally different as we chose to do something unalike the other group but still showed a strong performance.
In conclusion I learnt a lot from this project, for example working as a group and sharing ideas to create a marvelous performance, to listen to everyone's ideas and also include my own, have fun and enjoy myself while doing it. My understanding to acting has developed further throughout this process, it helped me come to a better understanding of the industry and what I can do for the future, in addition how I can use all the knowledge that I learned during this project and apply it and use it in the future.
