Level 3 Diploma – Performance and Production Arts
Section 1 – Rationale
Throughout the 7 units I have learnt new techniques and tricks that that I have applied to my knowledge on drama, acting and performing arts. When I first began I was introduced to new ideas about the world of acting, I have studied Greek theatre, Chekhov, Stanislavski and his methods, such as the Stanislavski system and more. The system is one the things that has really supported me through my journey, I have used it countless times, for example subtext and emotional memory has helped me get a grasp on my emotions as I found it hard to connect with the some of the characters that I have been told to play. In addition to the techniques learnt, the Meisner technique was very helpful as well, the focus of the Meisner approach is for the actor “get out of their head”, I believe this to have assisted me throughout especially when I want to get in touch with my true emotions instead of “pushing” for them. I think that I made immense progress, I consider that my confidence while acting as been “boosted up” and has made me a stronger actor.
Section 2 – Project concept
In this project we will create a performance based on my groups’ ideas. We will interpret the play Love and Information by Caryl Churchill. This is no ordinary play, it is composed of 52 scenes within 7 sections that don’t link at all. However, the thing they all have in common is they are all suppressing a feeling, an emotion, However due to the play being way to long we will have to shorten it and make it smaller. So, instead of 52 scenes there are only 29 scenes. This play is different to the ones that we did before as it contains no stage directions or characters or anything, just lines and either a monologue or dualogue. This is like a play that I've haven’t seen before. I feel I will enjoy because the structure will allow me to express myself. So far, I have read the scenes and have tried to draw out the play’s themes. Many of them seem to involve trust and conflict but all of them involve the idea of love, love between family and friends. My aims for this project are as follows, I will develop my role in rehearsals, take full responsibility for learning lines any blocking that is required, use skills and imagination, carry out research, record notes on my development and work cooperatively with the other members of my group.

Section 3 - Evaluation
I intend to ask my classmates to give me a peer assessment and this will help with my acting development process. I will keep a record of rehearsals and evaluate how i have progressed over the weeks. I will record notes on my phone and on my blog. I also intend to evaluate the whole process after we’ve completed the performance.
